1886 CafeThe 1886 Cafe and Bakery, located in the beautiful historic Driskill Hotel, serves fresh dishes from bagels to wedding cakes and many more other things. Additionally, there is a bakery and coffee stand where anyone can get on go coffee and delicious baked goods. The employees are responsible for greeting and seating guests, serving guests, and providing excellent customer experience to the guests.
ReportI had the pleasure of working with many great people in the 1886 Cafe department. One of many was Eric. He was the waiter that I got to shadow and learn from. He showed me how to use the "Micros" program that took orders and sent them to the kitchen. This program was used to print out checks and log all information in. He showed me how to handle and bus tables, set up tables, and many more things. Also, I shadowed Madison and Greg on the host stand, who taught me their system of how and where they place the guests. They also taught me the table numbers and how to properly greet the customers. This was helpful, especially in the barista stand. Many customers would come and get coffee and pastry goods. I was taught to greet them and take their order, giving them their pastries in the take out box. One of the managers, Erin, suggested I try to do some In Room Dining. As part of the Cafe and Bakery department, I got to spend a little time there as well. A lovely woman named Cassandra showed me how to take phone calls and how to set up the plates for the guests. I got the privilege of following Jeff to deliver one of the trays and experience actually serving a guest. This department is by far my favorite, getting to see so many different faces and working with these people were a delight.
